GOOGLE GURGLE
Google founder Sergey Brin
Last Friday, the Web darling's stock price fell 8.5 percent to close below $400 — its largest single-day drop ever.
The selloff came after a week in which mounting concerns that expectations may have risen too high for Google were compounded by its involvement in a government investigation.
Google's announcement last Thursday that it would refuse a Justice Department demand to turn over a sample of its search data gave investors an excuse to do just that — and on Friday, investors pushed the share price below $400 for the first time since November.

First Lady Laura Bush yesterday slapped down Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton
January 19, 2006 -- WASHINGTON — First Lady Laura Bush yesterday slapped down Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's racially charged claim that Republicans run the House of Representatives "like a plantation."
"I think it's ridiculous. It's a ridiculous comment — that's what I think," Bush told reporters aboard her plane, sparking laughter as they flew home from an Africa trip.
She spoke out the day after her husband's spokesman, Scott McClellan, said it was "out of bounds" for Clinton to blast Republicans by using the racially charged buzzword "plantation" on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
Clinton sparked the storm by telling a mostly black Harlem crowd: "When you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation — and you know what I'm talking about."

KATE, LINDSAY BUMP-&-GRIND
Lohan, Moss and a couple of female friends swanned into the Upper East Side mammary mecca at about 2:45 a.m. and headed straight for the legendary Champagne Room, where the giggly group ordered round after round of vodka shots, raspberry Kamikazes and beer.
Their table was immediately swarmed by strippers and Lohan and Moss enjoyed numerous lap dances. But the fun really started when Moss jumped on the stage nearest the main bar and began grinding against a pole, much to the delight of hundreds of red-blooded banker types.

Mouse tossed into fire sets house ablaze
Items compiled from Tribune news services
Published January 9, 2006
FT. SUMNER, NEW MEXICO -- A mouse got its revenge against a homeowner who tried to dispose of it in a pile of burning leaves. The blazing creature ran back to the man's house and set it on fire.
Luciano Mares, 81, of Ft. Sumner said he caught the mouse in his house..
"I had some leaves burning outside, so I threw it in the fire," Mares said from a motel room Saturday.
Village Fire Chief Juan Chavez said the burning mouse ran to just beneath a window, and the flames spread up from there.
No one was hurt inside, but the home and everything in it was destroyed.

3 Sisters Give Birth on 3 Consecutive Days
Why not on the same day?
seems like they could have put a little more effort into it is all I'm saying."
The sisters, who appeared on several morning news shows, had no answer for why they didn't try harder.
One sister offered a half-hearted apology to the nation saying, "I know we can do better. We're going to take a few months, but we're all planning on fucking like crazy on March 10, and if all goes well, we'll finally get this right nine months after that." The other two sisters were obviously too embarrassed to say anything and the poor babies just pretended to be asleep the entire time to avoid having to answer for their mother's shame.

12 Miners Found Alive; 1 Dead
TALLMANSVILLE, W.Va. -- The word that keeps coming up is "miracles."
There's jubilation in Tallmansville, W.Va., after 12 of 13 miners caught in an explosion in a coal mine were found alive.
Bells at a nearby church where relatives had been gathering rang as family members ran out screaming in joy. Some yelled: "They're alive!"
"Miracles happen in West Virginia and today we got one," said Charlotte Weaver, the wife of one of the trapped men.
Weaver said she was afraid "a lot of times," but she never gave up.
There were hugs and tears among the crowd outside the Sago Baptist Church. A group of celebrants began singing the hymn "How Great Thou Art."

Of all the next-gen gadgetry we were expecting to see at CES, a Google PC wasn't one of them. According to the Los Angeles Times, though, co-founder and president Larry Page will make the big announcement in his keynote speech at the CES show in Las Vegas.
The rumour should, though, be taken with a generous sprinkling of salt – despite much web gossip, the paper's scoop is vague and Google is remaining understandably tight-lipped. The web giant has, nevetheless, been apparently cavorting with superstore giants Wal-Mart Stores Inc to set up a deal to sell the machines.
