tossing a decapitated chicken (weird but true)

A man was arrested in Elmhurst, Ill., after a cop spotted him tossing a decapitated chicken, still flapping its wings, from his car.
He explained that he was killing the bird for good luck as part of his Santeria religion.
After determining that decapitating a chicken isn't a crime - it's considered a humane way to kill one - cops charged the fowl fellow with littering.

Dubai company quits ports fight

With Congress moving to overrule the White House, Dubai Ports World announced it will give up its management stake in a deal to operate some of the terminals at U.S. ports and transfer it to an American company.

"Because of the strong relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the United States and to preserve that relationship, DP World has decided to transfer fully the U.S. operation of P&O Operations North America to a United States entity," said DP World's chief operating officer, Edward H. Bilkey.

Project 'Origami' comes to life as 'Ultramobile PC'

The Ultramobile PC plays back music and video, but also lets users do other computer tasks, such as e-mail and Internet searches.
Looking a bit like a handheld video game console, with the heft of a large paperback book, the inch-thick PC features a 7-inch screen and weighs less than 2½ pounds. It runs a full Windows XP computer operating system, accessed with a pencil-like stylus, and supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless hook-ups.
The battery lasts up to three hours, and it is equipped with a 60-gigabyte hard drive. Two models are expected to hit store shelves by early April, priced at around $600 to $1,000.

Watery atmosphere discovered on Saturn's moon

Saturn's snow-white moon, Enceladus, is shrouded by a thin water-vapour atmosphere, reveal measurements from the US-European Cassini spacecraft. The atmosphere may be pumped out by erupting ice volcanoes or geysers - which could signal toeholds for life on the tiny moon.

The Elbow Bump Goes to Work

Elbow bump. No, that isn't the latest type of punch from the National Hockey League or Ultimate Fighting. It's the way that the World Health Organization would like us to greet each other from now on.

Yep, the handshake is seen as too efficient a way to spread disease — germs go from their nose, to their hands, to your hands to your nose and eyes — yuck! So in business and social settings we'll soon all be asked to mimic the greeting that doctors and scientists use when they are working around such diseases as the Ebola virus — to bump elbows when we want to greet another person. Welcome to the new world of bird flu

Berkeley Law The Latest To Accidentally Admit Thousands Via Email

There have been quite a few stories over the years concerning universities accidentally sending out congratulations emails to applicants when they didn't mean to. By this point, you would have figured that most universities would have put in place a decent process to prevent this from happening -- but apparently not. The latest is Berkeley's law school. The director of admissions there was apparently teaching a new hire how to use the email system, including (uh oh) how to send a single message to many people at the same time. He just so happened to pick the "you've been accepted email" and the list of all 7,000 applicants and then, naturally, pressed the send key. Seems like those first year classes might get a little crowded this year...

Madonna girl reading lips

The lusty lip-lock between Madonna and Britney Spears on MTV a couple of summers ago got the Material Girl's daughter mighty curious about who's gay and who's not.
Madonna confesses in the upcoming issue of Out magazine that 9-year-old Lourdes "is really obsessed" with the topic, and even asked, "Mom, you know they say that you are gay?"
The superstar singer says she explained that the Spears smooch wasn't sexual and just meant, "I am the mommy pop star and she is the baby pop star. And I am kissing her to pass my energy on to her."

Sony W30 and W50

Sony’s becoming Al Green – it just can’t stop.

Like the recent Sony W30 and W50 [story here], the new DSC-H2 and DSC-H5 cut out the shake of jittery hands with clever gyroscopes built into the camera and pole-vault to a light sensitivity of ISO 1000 by using new sensors. In other words, they’re the perfect cameras for photographing cityscapes at night and mates in dark clubs.

Shooting video in high-def was once but a pipe dream to the weak of shoulder thanks to the chunky kit – Sony’s new camcording waif, though, won't bother you with anything so much as a hand cramp.
Sony claims that the camcorder before you is the lightest and smallest HD shooter in the world – Sanyo’s new 145g HD1 will cough loudly at such suggestions, but at 500g it’s still an impressive feat of miniaturisation.

Fears over freshness of meat

It's a safe bet that steak sliced while the customer watches is fresh.
But shoppers who think they can spot older meat by the color... may be fooled.
Some meat packers are quietly exposing pork and beef to safe levels of carbon monoxide... just before packaging.
Carbon monoxide keeps meat looking red -- but not necessarily fresh -- for weeks.
David Duerr, an expert at Central Market, says meat should not be judged by color alone.

Woman's Arm Severed In Car Accident

Jacqueline Dotson and her six-year-old daughter had to be cut out of their vehicle after the accident in which Dotson veered into the median and over-corrected, rolling her truck over the guardrail and landing upside down after flipping several times.
Several people stopped to help, and it turns out, the good samaritans may very well have saved Dotson's life. Sheila Vice, a nurse's aide, and an off-duty EMT from another county stopped to help, and put a tourniquet on Dotson's arm to stop the bleeding. Her arm was found near the accident still clutching a cell phone.

Cannabis smoker complained to police

A cannabis smoker has been arrested after complaining to police that he was sold bad weed.
Hans-Juergen Bendt, 52, from Darmstadt, lodged a complaint about his dealer with police after he sold him seven ounces of "completely un-enjoyable" hash.
Bendt complained the dealer refused to refund him the £270 he had paid for the drugs.
But despite the official complaint, in which Bendt described himself as a victim of "fraud" involving drugs of "absolutely mediocre quality", the officers failed to act upon the allegations and booked the complainant instead.
He is now being charged for the illegal purchase and possession of narcotic substances.

His brains were definitly fried.

There goes taxpayers money again, on junk. My opinion.

Turkish rush to embrace anti-US film

It is rabidly anti-American, and it is the biggest draw in town.
In one scene, trigger-happy US troops massacre civilians at a wedding party.
In another they firebomb a mosque during evening prayer. There are multiple summary executions.
And for the first time, the real-life abuses by American soldiers at Abu Ghraib prison are played out on the big screen.
BBC News
This movie ought to be condemned!!
