AllPeers Is The FireFox “Killer App”

AllPeers is a simple, persistent buddy list in the browser. Initially, interaction with those buddies will be limited to discovering and sharing files - If you choose to, you can share any file on your network with one or more of your friends. They will be able to see what files you choose to share (even getting an RSS feed of new files you include), and with a single click download it to their own hard drive.

'They're Alive'

12 Miners Found Alive; 1 Dead
TALLMANSVILLE, W.Va. -- The word that keeps coming up is "miracles."

There's jubilation in Tallmansville, W.Va., after 12 of 13 miners caught in an explosion in a coal mine were found alive.

Bells at a nearby church where relatives had been gathering rang as family members ran out screaming in joy. Some yelled: "They're alive!"

"Miracles happen in West Virginia and today we got one," said Charlotte Weaver, the wife of one of the trapped men.

Weaver said she was afraid "a lot of times," but she never gave up.

There were hugs and tears among the crowd outside the Sago Baptist Church. A group of celebrants began singing the hymn "How Great Thou Art."

Of all the next-gen gadgetry we were expecting to see at CES, a Google PC wasn't one of them. According to the Los Angeles Times, though, co-founder and president Larry Page will make the big announcement in his keynote speech at the CES show in Las Vegas.

The rumour should, though, be taken with a generous sprinkling of salt – despite much web gossip, the paper's scoop is vague and Google is remaining understandably tight-lipped. The web giant has, nevetheless, been apparently cavorting with superstore giants Wal-Mart Stores Inc to set up a deal to sell the machines.

NSA spy americans 64% OK

December 28, 2005--Sixty-four percent (64%) of Americans believe the National Security Agency (NSA) should be allowed to intercept telephone conversations between terrorism suspects in other countries and people living in the United States. A Rasmussen Reports survey found that just 23% disagree.

Sixty-eight percent (68%) of Americans say they are following the NSA story somewhat or very closely.

Just 26% believe President Bush is the first to authorize a program like the one currently in the news. Forty-eight percent (48%) say he is not while 26% are not sure.

Eighty-one percent (81%) of Republicans believe the NSA should be allowed to listen in on conversations between terror suspects and people living in the United States. That view is shared by 51% of Democrats and 57% of those not affiliated with either major political party.

The Ugly Truth

Here is the ugly truth. Beautiful people tend to make more money and get better promotions and have more power than the rest of us.
In this month’s edition of that blockbuster magazine “The Regional Economist” two employees of the St. Louis branch of the Federal Reserve Bank analyzed previously reported data on height, weight, appearance and wages. What they found is that looking good pays off handsomely.
The report also stated that titans of industry tend to be taller than the average. The tall tale they tell is that the height-advantaged get 2.6% more in salary per-inch than the average-heighted.
And here’s the skinny on women, weight and wages. The study says that fat white women make less money than their more slender compatriots.

Were you born an asshole? Or did you work at it your whole life? Either way it worked out fine 'cause you're an aaaass...hole tonight!

"Our study focused on the term 'asshole' itself in terms of its derogatory connotation, its cultural origins and role in a societal structure, and it is our firm observation and cursory thesis that most people who call others The A-word are better defined, in clinical terms, as assholes themselves."
Cardinale explained the most common use of the A-word was to "show contempt toward those with conflicting agenda, such as competing philosophical or financial beliefs and needs."

Chess Boxing a new growing sport

In a contest there shall be 11 rounds, 6 rounds of chess, 5 rounds of boxing. A round of chess takes 4 minutes. Each competitor has 12 minutes on the chess timer. As soon as the time runs out the game is over.
A round of boxing takes 2 minutes. Between rounds there is a 1 minute pause, during which competitors change their gear. The contest is decided by: checkmate (chess round), exceeding the time limit (chess round), retirement of an opponent (chess or boxing round), KO (boxing round), or referee decision (boxing round). If the chess game ends in a stalement, the opponent with the higher score in boxing wins. If there is an equal score, the opponent with the black pieces wins.

Photographer criticised

One wrote: "The pictures are well shot, but the person who shot this is disgusting. He knew there was a pit, but was waiting there for someone to fall over."
Liu defended himself, saying: "I just knew that the city government has paved the pit, and without my pictures, the pit would not be noticed by the government, and there would perhaps be more people falling over." more
