The Ugly Truth

Here is the ugly truth. Beautiful people tend to make more money and get better promotions and have more power than the rest of us.
In this month’s edition of that blockbuster magazine “The Regional Economist” two employees of the St. Louis branch of the Federal Reserve Bank analyzed previously reported data on height, weight, appearance and wages. What they found is that looking good pays off handsomely.
The report also stated that titans of industry tend to be taller than the average. The tall tale they tell is that the height-advantaged get 2.6% more in salary per-inch than the average-heighted.
And here’s the skinny on women, weight and wages. The study says that fat white women make less money than their more slender compatriots.

Were you born an asshole? Or did you work at it your whole life? Either way it worked out fine 'cause you're an aaaass...hole tonight!

"Our study focused on the term 'asshole' itself in terms of its derogatory connotation, its cultural origins and role in a societal structure, and it is our firm observation and cursory thesis that most people who call others The A-word are better defined, in clinical terms, as assholes themselves."
Cardinale explained the most common use of the A-word was to "show contempt toward those with conflicting agenda, such as competing philosophical or financial beliefs and needs."

Chess Boxing a new growing sport

In a contest there shall be 11 rounds, 6 rounds of chess, 5 rounds of boxing. A round of chess takes 4 minutes. Each competitor has 12 minutes on the chess timer. As soon as the time runs out the game is over.
A round of boxing takes 2 minutes. Between rounds there is a 1 minute pause, during which competitors change their gear. The contest is decided by: checkmate (chess round), exceeding the time limit (chess round), retirement of an opponent (chess or boxing round), KO (boxing round), or referee decision (boxing round). If the chess game ends in a stalement, the opponent with the higher score in boxing wins. If there is an equal score, the opponent with the black pieces wins.

One wrote: "The pictures are well shot, but the person who shot this is disgusting. He knew there was a pit, but was waiting there for someone to fall over."
Liu defended himself, saying: "I just knew that the city government has paved the pit, and without my pictures, the pit would not be noticed by the government, and there would perhaps be more people falling over." more

Meet the Press 12.25.05 Tom Brokaw & Ted Koppel

when the president and his top people tell you, as they did, "Here's our perception of what exists. Here's our perception of the danger to the United States. Here's our perception of a relationship between this guy who has weapons of mass destruction and the group that just blew up the Pentagon and the World Trade Center," I don't know that reporters as a whole can sit there and say, "Oh, hokum. You know, it's just not true." We can raise questions, and I...
MR. BROKAW: Given the absence of hard evidence.
MR. KOPPEL: Hard evidence. Right.
MR. BROKAW: There was not--you know, the French intelligence were sharing the same conclusions with the administration. I thought--I agree with you that I don't think that we pushed hard enough for vigorous debate. I think that on Capitol Hill that the debate was anemic, at best. You had--Ted Kennedy and Senator Byrd, really, were the only ones speaking out with any kind of passion in the Senate, the people who...
MR. RUSSERT: And they were not questioning whether Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.
MR. BROKAW: No. No. No.
MR. RUSSERT: That seemed to be a uniformly held belief.
MR. BROKAW: Right. Yeah.
MR. KOPPEL: Nor did the Clinton administration beforehand.
MR. BROKAW: No.
MR. KOPPEL: I mean, the only difference between the Clinton administration and the Bush administration was 9/11.
MR. BROKAW: Right.

MR. KOPPEL: If 9/11 had happened on Bill Clinton's watch, he would have gone into Iraq.
MR. BROKAW: Yeah. Yeah.

MR. RUSSERT: Let me continue on Iraq and show you pictures from December 15. These are 11 million Iraqis voting, proudly holding up their fingers, having dipped it in ink as evidence that they had cast their vote; even on their hospital beds, making their vote and their views known. The president then embarked on a series of speeches. Some were vintage Bush--tough, draw the line, "stay the course"--and others were a bit contrite.

PRES. BUSH: We will never back down, we will never give in, and we will never accept anything less than complete victory.

Hurricane Katrina overwhelming choice for 2005's top story

NEW YORK The onslaught of Gulf Coast hurricanes has been chosen as the top Associated Press story of 2005 in a vote of U-S editors and news directors.
Katrina made landfall August 29th -- leading to the swamping of New Orleans.

Tens of thousands of Louisiana evacuees headed for Texas.

Rita came ashore September 24th near Sabine (suh-BEEN') Pass.

The hurricanes received 242 first-place votes out of 288 ballots cast.

No other A-P story received more than 18 first-place votes.

The death of Pope John Paul the second and the election of Joseph Ratzinger to succeed him as Pope was the number two pick, followed by the situation in Iraq.

Iraq was voted the top story in 2002 and 2003, and was runner-up in 2004 to the U-S election in which President Bush won a second term.

Here are 2005's top 10 stories, as voted by A-P members:

Start of New Year to be delayed -- by a second

2005 will last a little longer than usual -- one second to be precise.
A leap second will be added into the world's clocks just before midnight to match up the clocks with the earth's rotation.
This will be the first leap second in seven years and the 23rd since 1972 when an international timekeeping agreement was signed.
Leap seconds are necessary because modern atomic clocks are extremely accurate while the earth's rotation has been slowing down because of tides.

Bush Wiretap OK by me

I think he did the right thing for the security of this nation. If we heard about this right after the 911 attacks it would have been ok by everyone. But since it's four years later the minds of plenty are not the same as they were 9/12/01. Here's one example of why it was a excellent move...and those that should be investigated is those that leaked this secret and critical to our security information to the public...(aaastudio)
....................................................................................
Equally irresponsible is the criticism Democrats are leveling at President Bush for his use of National Security Agency wiretaps to catch terrorists. Before Clinton and Schumer criticize this policy, they'd do well to reflect on the fact that the Brooklyn Bridge might well be rubble, with thousands dead, if Bush did not use these wiretaps.
In 2002, the feds (presumably the NSA) picked up random cellphone chatter using the words "Brooklyn Bridge" (which apparently didn't translate well into Arabic). They notified the New York Police Department, which flooded the bridge with cops. Then the feds overheard a phone call in which a man said things were "too hot" on the bridge to pull off an operation. Later, an interrogation of a terrorist allowed by the Patriot Act led cops to the doorstep of this would-be bridge bomber. (His plans would definitely have brought down the bridge, NYPD sources told me.)
Dick Morris NYPost

Why didn't Bush get a warrant? On who? For what? The NSA wasn't looking for a man who might blow up the bridge. It had no idea what it was looking for. It just intercepted random phone calls from people in the United States to those outside — and so heard the allusions to the bridge that tipped them off.

WOMEN have suspected it for millennia, and scientists have finally proved it - men cannot have both big brains and big testicles.
Brainiacs and scholars everywhere may gnash their teeth, but according to a recent study of bats, nature forces the males of a species to make a painful trade-off between mental capacity and sperm production.

War on Terrorism

“Like earlier struggles for freedom, this war will take many turns, and the enemy must be defeated on every battlefront — from the streets of Western cities, to the mountains of Afghanistan, to the tribal regions of Pakistan, to the islands of Southeast Asia and the Horn of Africa. Yet the terrorists have made it clear that Iraq is the central front in their war against humanity. So we must recognize Iraq as the central front in the war on terror.”

Future Jihad

From MSNBC terrorism expert Walid Phares, this is a frightening look into the future of jihad. Though an alarming new picture of what we can expect from terrorists in the future, Walid Phares reveals how the United States can win the war. Phares, who served as an expert with the Justice Department, briefed the Defense and State Departments, and testifies to Congress, shows that there has been a fundamental misunderstanding about al Qaeda's ultimate goal in the West and what victory means to jihadists. He answers such critical questions as: How long will this war last? Is the United States secure on the inside? Future Jihad shows how our defenses have been infiltrated; identifies the future generation of homegrown terrorists; and points the way for America to win the ideological war at the heart of jihad.
